The world of Remnant is filled with horrific monsters bent on the destruction of humanity. Fortunately, the kingdoms of the world have risen to combat these forces by training powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses at academies around the planet. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long are four such Huntresses in training whose journeys will take them far past the grounds of Beacon Academy. Though each may be powerful on their own, these four girls must come together to work as a team if they truly hope to become the next generation of Remnant's protectors. RWBY背景设定在类现代但是充满着超自然力量的世界。主要人物为四个拥有各自的特殊能力及武器的女孩，她们因各种原因聚在一起组成团队并接受训练，以对抗怪物、恶棍或其他类似的团体。 在这系列之前，人类为了生存，发起了对黑暗戮兽（Grimm）的战争，直到他们发现“尘晶”（Dust）可以被用作魔力来源，这让人类得以对抗它们，并建立了文明世界。

Set at the turn of the century, the story concerns a Polish poet living in Cracow who has decided to marry a peasant girl. The wedding is attended by a heterogenous group of people from all strata of Polish society, who dance, get drunk and lament Poland's 100-year-long division of Poland under Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The bridegroom, a painter friend, and a journalist each in turn is confronted with spectres of Polish past. In the end a call to arms is called but turns out to be a hoax.
